What was I going to say?

Was busy when I came in this morning so I have forgotten the things I had lined up for today's "entry". Perhaps it was a gripe about the quality of signal from our new sky freesat box - it was far worse than the signal we're getting via the inbuilt freeview box and the bent coathanger aerial, which is not a good thing at all. Had a bit of a fiddle with the settings, made the sky box put out a 16:9 picture etc and things are good now, but I was worried for a while. Going to check out some new leads too, see if I can make things even better.

THAT'S IT, got an "example timetable" given to us at the train station this morning, regarding the that's lined up for Folkestone - London... It's a bit trainspottery but have a look at this and compare it to the one hour forty journey we're doing right now:

Dover Priory 7.48
Folkestone Central 8.00
Folkestone West Parkway 8.03
Sandling 8.09
Ashford International 8.21
Ebbsfleet 8.42
Stratford 8.50
London St Pancras 8.57

57 minutes for us into the nearest mainline station to my office, that'll be nice. Not that this timetable is guaranteed, nor that I'm sure to be working in the same place when this goes live in 3 years or whenever... Poor old Westenhanger, they will miss out on the new service, but to be honest they're not at all far from Sandling, I'd have missed them off the service too. Serving both and is an odd one too, surely they ought to upgrade one of the stations and close the other, maybe running another bus between them. Exciting times anyway, move to Folkestone now!

Also more things, I got a GENUINE email from Ebay, they want me to be a special friend of theirs as I am sending quite a lot of business there way, AND The BBC want me to write a piece about Folkestone for www.bbc.co.uk/kent. Might do something to replace their beach page I got pulled the other day, or maybe something about local gig history; the guy who put on at The Penny Theatre has been in touch - maybe I can start campaigning for a blue plaque?

I am getting an email attachment like this every time a car goes past my house, as I left my camera pointed out the window with motion detect on, it's a 5 second windows media video file... my inbox is filling up!

Very busy at work right now with things, that's good, everyone seems to be asking my opinion and including me in things right now. Hope it's not the preliminary stages of hoofing me out...

The new telly has not yet arrived

This is where it's going though, I'll be keeping an eye all day...

Set it up in a bit of a hurry, just threw the camera into the corner, and it needs a lot of focussing etc to get a better picture from it, ah well... Got the motion detecting and emailing working on the camera now, though not fully adjusted, it's a bit sensitive. Found out (thanks again Itchypaws that you can't use gmail as the SMTP server for sending from this camera, as the camera doesn't support secure sending and gmail insists on it. Found another though, dug out my password and that and using my ISP. So, as soon as there's movement in our front room, I should get a 1meg 5 second video attachment of a windows media file in my inbox. It's very exciting.

Oh yeah people that I've tried to describe where the telly's going to go, hopefully now you can see. That's the old telly on the floor, and that's an old kitchen cupboard next to it which is making do as a TV cabinet for now. For the last 18 months, and also still for now, yeah I know.

Still sick with cold, but too excited about the telly to be bothered by it. I am at work today btw, hence monitoring the TV delivery action by remote camera.

Having problems with Sky again, so we've got no yet, we're getting all the kit from a third party supplier (Simpsons of Hythe), but the card has to come from Sky. They say they've sent it, but it's not arrive - this is the same problem we had when we tried to get last year...

Didn't get an aerial fitted then...

Guy came, and can't fit an aerial. He was very helpful and has had a good look round, up in the loft and everything, but he says the only place we can get access to put an aerial might not give us a better picture than we're getting now, so it's not worth it. It'd be a gamble putting it int he loft, might give a good pciture and might not, but he wouldn't be able to run a cable down from the loft to us, it's too awkward anyway.

What we can have, and they can do it in the next few days, is Sky Freesat - 150 quid for the dish, 100 quid to fit, access to a few more channels than freeview, and no more to pay. They will fit us up for Sky+ for £360, but I don't think we want an extra subscription amount, we won't have time to watch it all. So Free Sat it is then!

Tellies are COMPLICATED! For example, they have this one in Curry's, the website says at 1500 quid though I think it might be less, Currys website will sell it direct at 1200 and John Lewis also has it at 1500, on it's website. Currys do say it's not wall mountable, but several sites, supply it with a wall bracket... John Lewis is more expensive for most, they will price match, but it's hard finding likely comparisons. They do offer a handy five year guarantee on all tellies, and we could use wedding gift vouchers to buy it, so it's looking like the right place. I think.

There's quite a difference in prices too. Anyway, that's LCD and I think we want a plasma anyway, but just trying to compare like with like... So far I've know we want HDTV Ready, higher resolution numbers are better, and a higher contrast ratio is better, though everyone lies about their contrast ratio anyway. Wikipedia told me that, it's been pretty handy...

Any advice in the next 24 hours gratefully received.
