James Herbertesque sort of weather today, very foggy at home, and all the way into London... makes things seem a bit quieter, I wonder if the fog is really absorbing sound...

Great weekend, tiring though, I could do with being asleep right now. After Saturday's sofa success we headed off for dinner at Escondido and it was great again. and I have been a few times and know we like it, but this time we went in a bit of a group, and were hoping the others would be impressed. And they were! Mother-in-law had something chicken based (as the swordfish was off the menu, the only disappointment of the day), Dom had duck fajitas (huge and not fatty), Dean had chilli prawns (finger lickin' humungous things on the shell), and Clare and I went for our usual steak (her) and red pepper polenta on a bed of mushrooms (me). I see now why it seemed to be a bit cheaper per head this time, no-one had a starter, but we did have a couple of bottles of wine. Definitely still recommended.

After dinner we pootled along to The Ship for a few more pints, a tiny "go on hit me... go on... OW! YOU REALLY HIT ME!" detour within the party, a bump into some more of Clare's family (who it turns out have been reading the website as it's a handy place to find out phones numbers of local places), NICE! Then back to ours until far far too late, emptying the fridge and playing pool. Sunday, we didn't just sat around the flat though, oh no - I automatically wrote that, as I know how lazy I am, but NO! We needed to shop, and hate Morrissons (the nearest local store) so we walked to Waitrose in Hythe, that's about four miles. Good exercise anyway. Home, unpack shopping, watched an Inspector Morse and a Sopranos.

Google calendar API is ready, I will be integrating fully and possibly ditching my own code. Maybe. It's not like the Google maps API with handy code examples to steal, the only examples they have so far are in , but I think I can sort it just with the examples they give...

Longboard marathon visits Folkestone

Not along The Leas I hope, where skating is OUTLAWED:

British Longboard Team Prepare for the Challenge of a Life Time

The stage is set for a team of longboard skateboarders from Devon, UK to attempt a World Record Breaking marathon. In July 2007, the BeatsWalkinEurope team will begin an epic 4000km skate marathon from North Devon in England through France, Switzerland and Spain. Their aim is to raise funds and awareness for 3 childrens charities - Link Community Development, the Lowe Syndrome Trust and Sailability Australia.

Barnstaple, UK (PRWEB) January 1, 2007 -- In July 2007, Longboard Skateboarders Sam Benson and Jay Duggan will set off on a 3000km Skateboarding Journey, following in the footsteps of BoardFree's Dave Cornthwaite.

Sam and jay have been skateboarding for 3 years, and only saw it as a hobby until they heard about Dave Cornthwaite's Marathon journeys for charity. Jay came up with the idea of trying to help Dave in any way they could. With BoardFree's support, BeatsWalkinEurope was born.

BeatsWalkin, named after Sam and Jay's local skate shop Beats Workin, will see the longboard enthusiast's skateboard through 6 of the most famous cities in Europe. The journey they have planned currently takes them from North Devon, across the South Coast of England to Folkestone in Kent. From there they will board the EuroStar and cross the British Channel into Calais in France.

From Calais they will head through Lille and on into Paris before heading south into Marseille and across the Pyrenees into Spain. The trip then takes them through Barcelona and Valencia on the Mediterranean coast before they head north through Madrid on into Santander.

All that lies ahead of them then is an overnight ferry crossing and a relatively short skate from Plymouth to Barnstaple in North Devon. In total, the trip is planned to take between 8 and 10 weeks to complete, averaging 30-35km per day.

BeatsWalkin is part of the BoardFree initiative, which Dave Cornthwaite founded in 2005. BoardFree and BeatsWalkin aim to raise funds and awareness for three children's charities; Sailability Australia, Link Community Development and the Lowe Syndrome Trust, as well as promoting sport to youngsters of all ages and abilities by encouraging a 'no-limits' approach to life.

the friend of a friend (foaf) project

Just added some FOAF info to this site, more aout it at www.foaf-project.org. Not sure how it'll help or what it'll do, I like the idea of there being a completely open and owned by no-one / type thing... Wonder if this can be used in a genealogy type way?

News of the day, what is there... not much I'm afraid. Was just thinking yesterday how I don't really do much these days and so don't have a lot to write about. If I'd started this ten years before it would be RAMMED with exciting gigs and things. Maybe it's time to revisit my gigography, found a few more tickets and things at the weekend.

The only things that do seem to be occupying my mind right now are commuting, house hassles, and programming (no please stay with me). Housewise a place on our street got burgled, thieves got into the block and went through each flat in turn. This has made me think maybe we should get a super-uber-front door, as if someone gets into the block when no-one's about, they can take their time smashing their way into the flat, sheltered by the communal hallway. Hopefully one advantage of being surrounded by pensioners where we live is that there will always be someone around, but I don't want to wait until after we get turned over before I do something. So, now I've blogged it, job done, yes? Things to do:

Get a super-uber-front door
Get (at least) a new smarter central heating clock
Get a new telly necessitating a proper tv aerial and also a smart new sofa
Fix my login thing over in the side bar there, so it works in MSIE too. Not sure my technique of loading a page with ajax is good, might need an alternative to .

Anything I've forgotten?
