Portchester Castle 5.04 music garden child friendly castle historic house monument portchester birthday weekend portchester castle portchester gala :: [comment] :: [delete]

Spent a smashing weekend in Portchester as it was Mum's birthday yesterday. Headed over Friday afternoon on the train, meeting up with Andy on the way in The Golden Lion. Not a great pub but a good evening anyway and some nice pints of HSB and a chat. Unfortunately it rained on our walk home, but I didn't want to get a taxi anyway. It was refreshing...

Saturday lots of visitors at Mum and Dad's house, nice to see so many of the family in one go. Then, on to Portchester Gala. This was a village fair type thing at some demonstrations of things like wild birds, and information stands from local people like The Portchester Society and their rivals The Popular Judean People's Portchester Civic Society, but mostly lots of raffles. I won a tin of kidney beans and bottles of appletize and bitter lemon, no booze, nor yet the signed Pompey shirt. Best bit of the day was when we were lured into the church in the castle grounds with the promise of beer, I thought it was a trick but they really were selling their own "Ale Mary" locally brewed beer. We bought half a dozen, they were quite good.

Saturday night dinner in The Clay Oven, Portchester. We were planning to go to Port Solent but decided on just walking there so no-one would have to drive. Very nice meal but it seemed a bit expensive in the final analysis. Dad picked up the tab anyway so I have nothing to complain about.

Sunday, didn't really have time to do anything but head back before lunch, bah, flying visit.

Obligatory world cup post

World cup, a bit of a tense game, we just about got there in the end. There are some bad people out there:

An internet company which sold fake World Cup tickets to children may have made more than £60,000 in the scam.

Nearly 400 schoolchildren from across the UK were told they had tickets as part of a £410-a-head tour to Germany.

Saw that yesterday on TV, a school in Portsmouth got whupped by it, but apparenly Portsmouth FC have guaranteed them tickets and paid for their return, nice!

And in more of yesterday's news today, oh dear Lister, crack cocaine is one thing, but a chauffeur driven [em]Skoda[/em]?

Hmm, what about me, and my life? Nothing to report today except Happy Birthday Mum. The office is quiet (almost too damned quiet), could be post football hangovers.

Done some more playing with Picasa, and it's great that using it to add descriptions and tags it updates the actual EXIF data within the image, so wherever I transfer the image too in future it'll always maintain my description, my tags, and the latitude / longitude I assigned to the pic. I had been adding this info only in flickr.com and was a bit bothered that if I moved my pics away from there I'd lose all that meta-data. Now, what to do with the 2000+ pictures I already uploaded?

Best place to be a parent

The Observer says Stokey is the best place to be a parent, aside from the smack, crack and stabbings I guess. Cheerier news from Folkestone, WiMAX trials in January, from someone called www.telabria.com, yeah Folkestone's where it's at baby! Can't wait to be back down there this weekend, no-one seems to be in the mood for working this week. Got quite a lot on at the moment too. Highlight of the actual week will be at tomorrow. Nice to see them on The South Bank Show last night, though they glossed over some things I'd like to have seen covered, like all their early London pub gigs that we went to... Guess there's plenty of footage of their American tour, but not of the early days.

Nice weekend in , got abused by the nephews and drunk with the friends, that's probably the right way round. Watched Pompey lose in in the pub, then back to mate's house for more drinking and

Dad, I will find a new picture to put up here soon, though I'll do my best to make you sorry you asked...
