I am in the process of gathering a geneaology account of all Titanic survivors - to which you have a link to in your site - I was wondering if you know if Charles and Ada had any children - I cannot discover from your site, if you live in the UK or not - but I thought I would let you know that I have a photo of Ada's Grave from Weston, Southampton and would be willing to post it to you if you wish me to
The inscription reads " In loving memory of
Ada Maria Clarke
Passed away February 8th 1953 aged 69
Survivor of the Titanic Disastor 1912
Also Charles V. Clarke
her beloved husband
who lost his life on s.s. Titanic
Re-united
in loving memory of
May West
Who passed away april 13th 1966
aged 77 years
at rest"
I also wondered if you knew who May West was
I can be contacted Houghian@aol.com
All the best with your research

Titanic research
I would like the photo of the grave.I think that because of the close ages(Charles b1883, Ada b1884 and May b1889), May might be Ada's sister. Also to be in the same grave(I assume she is?)she must be related. At this monent in time I am not sure if Charles and Ada had any children.

Drop me an E-mail and I will gladly send you the picky - I tried linking to your name on the site - but it didn't work -
all the best Houghie
Cheers for that, made it a link back to your page.
That's great information, thanks, we will be in touch by email! We don't know who May West was, but we'll try and find out now.

Slashdot has it here, I'll quote just a little to pad out my content:
The team collected clues from 48 Titanic rivets and found many riddled with high concentrations of slag, a glassy residue of smelting that can make iron brittle [...] With the right slag content they should have held up [...] Even a few failures because of flawed metal would have been sufficient to unzip entire seams
Read more. I haven't checked out slashdot.org for a while, I don't think they have Titanic related stories very often...

Dear Pauly:
Has anyone that has posted or who reads this blog ever heard of a man called "Rhodes Hazzard"? He is my GGG-grandfather who was b. 11 Oct. 1806, he turns up in Sussex County, Delaware (U.S.A.) (ref. "The History of Delaware" J. Thomas Scharf) and in the book, there is no reference to Rhodes' parents. His son, Thomas Hazzard told a census worker that Rhodes was from Scotland.
I am just wondering if during some research anybody has encountered that name.
Sincerely,
April Hunter

But I don't know anything about the history of the family I'm afraid, good luck tracking them down.

Got an email from someone in the USA trying to trace Clarke ancestors from the UK. I don't think we have any Clarkes in the USA, and said that by email, but thought I'd republish some info here in case anyone else can help. Jim Clarke says:
It is possible that the James Moore Clarke (b.1852) a carpenter who emigrated from England was from Hampshire,UK.
When he went back home for a visit and "disappeared" (1888 or later) he may have resettled there as it was known he wasn't very happy here.
The fact that he was from Hampshire doesn't appear on Jim's page for some reason, but some more background does:
James Moore Clarke(1852) who emigrated here from England, he was a carpenter. He married Louisa Miller(Oct,1861). Louisa was born here and they were married here. They had a son named John (Dec,1879)& lived on Harrison Street in Brooklyn. They then had four more children. Their names are as follows: My Great Grandfather Frank Clarke(Aug,1888), Eva Clarke(Nov,1883), Annie Clarke(May,1885) & Lucy Clarke(Birthdate not known).

Any information is helpful.
Maybe someone will stumble across this page in years to come and have an answer!
Aha, I've posted this before!

This sounds good, there's a Jack the Ripper exhibition on at the Museum in Docklands. Not connected as such with my family, nor with your family I expect, but look, see, history and that. Fascinating stuff.
From 15 May - 2 November Museum in Docklands is returning to the scene of London's most infamous crimes in Jack the Ripper and the East End, the first exhibition to explore the Jack the Ripper murders and their legacy.
From police files and photographs to letters from the public and the supposed Ripper himself, examine, for the first time, surviving documents from the investigation and follow the crimes as they unfolded. With original 1880s artefacts also on show, you'll have the chance to analyse the evidence first-hand and reach your own conclusions about a story which continues to fascinate today.

Re: Windebank
My grandmother was Irene Victoria Windebank, born 1897 in Hambledon. Thus far I have gone back to Edward Windebank born 1820 Widley Hants. Can you offer me any links to living relatives or going further back. obviously I can bring her tree up to the present time.
