Christmas telly

Time for some christmas roundup type things, I really did have a great time during our extended break, so much so that I didn't post all the tedious minutiae (can you tell from my embiggened vocabulary I've been playing a lot of Scrabble?), so I'll try and revisit some of it, starting with things what I did watch.

Night At The Museum - Ben Stiller, in a museum, at night. Not mentioned in the title (but figure-out-able from the poster) is that everything comes to life. So bits of lots of nice family fantasy films like Jurassic Park and Jumanji and things rolled into one, with plenty of extended cameos from big names like Ricky Gervais and Steve Coogan. Cheesy, and a kids film really, but worth seeing.

Holes - watched the same day, by chance, on TV, absolutely great. Cheesy again, but a great story line linking characters through several generations. A bit of a feel of a film like The Shawshank Redemption. But good.

Hmm, Even though we didn't watch any xmas day TV, and haven't seen much apart from our Amazon DVD rentals for most of the year, and even missed Hogfather and the new Dracula filmed at Eastnor Castle, I'm sure I watched more than that. Perhaps I'll return to this theme.

Not watching: Celebrity Big Brother. Yet. All the papers were full yesterday of rumours of more interesting participants (than Jermaine Jackson, Danielle Lloyd, Ken Russell, Jo O'Meara, Leo Sayer, Shilpa Shetty, Cleo Rocos, Carole Malone, Donny Tourette, Ian 'H' Watkins, and Face out of The A-Team), rumours planted mostly by people working on the show. The final list are far less famous / interesting than anyone had expected, I was hoping to see Justin Hawkins cracking up on screen personally. Without viewing any of it I would say Dirk Benedict is my favourite, I hope he doesn't turn out to be too much of a twat. Seems he is a so I guess it's a safe bet he's ALRIGHT.

Another night in

Didn't have serious problems getting home yesterday in the end, was running OK and just made my train with seconds to spare. Sat in A DIFFERENT PART OF THE TRAIN, as a commuter this is an unusual experience. I must have had someone's seat, and had the people who regularly sit in that carriage wondering if I was a suicide bomber... Likewise the people in our usual carriage would probably have been shedding a tear at mine and 's two empty seats, thinking the worst.

My take on yesterday's bomb attacks is it's copycat white supremacists, but blacked up. Another mate has the idea that the bombs failed to go off because MI5 interferred with the materials supply chain, but yet another mate has heard that this home made stuff would probably degrade quite fast and that's why they failed.

A night in front of the telly then. I was very pleased with and 's , I thought it might not be good. Bit of a dry start to it, and I'd heard in advance that there weren't many belly laughs in it, but I was cracked up after that. Ben "IT STILL COUNTS!" Stiller was ace as a caricature of himself, if indeed that's what it was. SURE BEN, you're not really like that all the time!

The bits that cracked me up mostly though were ' trademark awkward embarrassing bits though. We weren't laughing at the man with the wonky leg, we were laughing at the other people not being able to cope with it. Also we were laughing at the racism, not at the racist jokes. It was a lot like Love They Neighbour or Mind Your Language in that respect. Or maybe that's going too far. The jokes and the language are "of the time" though, so maybe in years to come it won't be looked on as kindly. I understand hated it, oh Ricky and Stephen must be GUTTED about that...

Also it was exactly like , what a rip-off - the main character even looked like David Brent. Oh why oh why, etc.

That must have put me in a chucklesome mood, I very much enjoyed 's and I even laughed at .

Chucklesome mood is now gone now there's been a SHOOTING at and armed police are surrounding an East London Mosque. Are these not signs of being back to normal though?
